The theme for me this week can be summarized by one word: "judgment." It's a loaded word with both good and bad connotations. This week's podcast uses judgment as an invisible backdrop to discuss "The Power and Limitations of Diet and Supplements."
Everything requires, to some extent, judgment. Without proper judgment, we're left with delusions, confusion, and misunderstanding. In my search for the optimal path for my patients, I have often been misled by advertising, conditioning, and my senses. Read on for stories on how I learned to pick magic wands over black holes after years of trial and error.
How to Pick Magic Wands Over Black Holes
Judging a tree by its fruits
When I first began using TrueHope's E. M. Power (multivitamin/mineral supplement) in 2002, the company assigned me to someone to teach me how to use it "properly."
After being instructed to inundate all my patients with high dosages, I soon discovered the company's bias towards using moresupplements even when taking too much made my patients feel sick.
I was surprised that the company had not learned about the potential harm from taking too much. The company had been around for eight years by then. I believed that their conflict of interest between financial gain and supplement side-effects created a black hole in the company's judgment.
I wrote a letter to the president of the company about my observation of worsened symptoms from taking too much of their product. Their response? They stopped selling the supplement to me for a week. Later, they apologized and allowed me to buy their supplement again. But by then, I had determined to learn about other good supplements.
On the flip side, in 2003 I ran across a therapist, Mark Bottinick, LCSW, who taught me about Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) and muscle testing. Astoundingly, EFT very quickly resolved my six-year-old son's phobia that developed soon after he had a traumatic experience.
The technique uses intention and tapping on acupressure points to resolve his recalcitrant problem. A week later, my son used it to clear his fear of swimming in the deep side of the swimming pool in less than five minutes.
No pills or cost involved! I couldn't believe it. Neither could some of my patients. Two patients were afraid of the muscle testing and EFT, telling me that it was from the devil, and refused to work with me. Their strong negative reactions shocked me but didn't stop me from exploring my new healing tools.
On November 10, 2021, Haeyoon, my assistant, and her three young children will be sharing their holistic experiences on my podcast in an episode called, "So Simple, Anyone Can Do It."
They talk about how they use their connection to Life Energy and doing Energy Breaths to immediately heal from hiccups and stomach aches. They think of it as their magic wand when they need instant healing.
Initially, when I was picking among thousands of potentially helpful supplements, I relied on advertising to determine which ones were the best. However, as I learned to apply energy testing on whether a supplement is a good fit for my patients, I soon found supplements that yielded better clinical outcomes.
Now, after many years, I have learned to "judge a tree by its fruits." Whether it's a supplement or energy healing technique, or a diet or exercise routine, we can pick magic wands over black holes through clinical observation, empirical outcomes, and energy testing.
I also learned the importance of avoiding conflicts of interest as a clinician. I don't pigeonhole myself into using only one supplement company. I don't believe in one way of doing energy healing work, nor do I follow one guru for enlightenment. I believe that healing through energy techniques can be easy to learn and that anyone can do it, even six-year-olds.
I hope you'll enjoy the upcoming podcast on the power and limitations of supplements, and Kunwoo's comments on November 10th, when he shares his energy healing experiences as a six-year-old.
