When I work with patients, I teach them about five different levels of being: spiritual, mental, emotional, physical, and social. Before we do energy work together, we would set an intention to be open to and to ask for divine spiritual support and healing. This is how I get around my lack of expertise in healing patients spiritually.
I believe one's spiritual life is intricately connected to one's physical life, even if one does not believe there is a spiritual state of being. Today's article is a brief exploration of spirituality, the laws that govern it, and how to integrate it into our lives when we want to heal.
Have a great week. Enjoy!
The Spiritual Laws of Health and Well-being
Connecting the dots between the spiritual and the physical in life
What is your understanding of the nature of spirituality and its role in creating health and well-being?
I am not referring to religious practices. What I am referring to is a state of being, where energy exists, and laws govern its functioning, just as Newtonian physics governs the laws of physical matter.
In energy medicine, I learned through energy testing that when a person thinks of something that is false, their energy state becomes immediately weaker compared to their baseline level of strength, even if the person doesn't know that the information is false. Also, a stronger energy state can be created through feelings of joy and positive statements compared to negative feelings and statements that weaken the person.
When I tested patients' energy states as they thought of God, the testing results varied based on their ideas about God. If they feared God and thought of God as a nosy, critical, punitive being, then they would go weak when they thought of God, even if they are very religious. If they thought of God as an unconditionally loving, supportive, and empowering being, then they would become much stronger physically.
Once, I tried to help a woman who didn't test well with any supplements. She could only use energy medicine to help her heal. When she did her Energy Breaths, however, she couldn't shift her energy to a stronger state of being. She thought it was because Energy Breaths used the words "Life Energy," and she wanted to change the words to "Christ's Energy." However, when she called it by that name, she remained weak. Because she couldn't benefit from either supplements or energy medicine, she couldn't heal, and we had to stop working together.
I wondered why such a devout, religious woman who wanted to heal so badly couldn't connect herself to a spiritual source to support her healing process. I even tested her husband, who sat in on her sessions, and he became very strong when he did Energy Breaths.
I thought everyone who was open to divine spiritual support would receive it, so I was surprised when this woman couldn't access spiritual energy. I concluded that because she was afraid that God would be offended by the term "Life Energy," she wasn't connecting to an unconditionally loving God. Tuning into a negative, punitive idea of God did nothing to empower her health whatsoever. She remained as weak after she did her Energy Breaths as she was beforehand.
What about patients who are agnostic or atheist?
I asked a patient who was an atheist what she would like to name the source of energy when she did her Energy Breaths. She wanted to call it "Universal Force." She did her Energy Breaths using the term "Universal Force" to describe her idea of an infinite source of perfect, life-giving energy. After she did her meditation and intention work, she was extremely strong. It taught me that "a rose by any other name will smell as sweet." Whatever her idea was of a universal force, it was very effective at strengthening and supporting her healing process. She healed well during her course of treatment and no longer needed to see me afterward.
Over the course of many years working with and testing patients, I have come to appreciate the connection between spiritual ideas and physical states of being. When it came to creating health, the idea of an infinite field of perfect, life-giving energy became an indispensable way to add to the depleted, dysfunctional, and weakened states of my patients. I learned that spiritual energy could support my patients' health if they would let go of their fears and prejudices and be open to unconditional love and support from this infinite source.
