Holistic Psychiatrist

Hello there!

The life-changing power of curiosity, open-mindedness, love of learning, and wisdom cannot be underestimated in creating the good life. They form a foundation that allows us to be young at heart and old in insight.

As we gradually accumulate empowerment through these virtues, we grow beyond helplessness when facing life’s challenges, sensitivity to slights, and the vicissitudes of health and wealth.

Character strengths and virtues are additional tools for managing life that complement the tools that create healthy biochemical and physiological function.

Like a professional pianist who needs both working fingers/mind and dedicated practice/learning to play a sonata, our lives need both biological health and character/virtues to create a beautiful and fulfilling life that ripples outward to positively affect the world.

In this podcast, Emily and I explore these virtues to understand them in greater depth and discuss their effects on our lives and on those we’ve encountered.

Please send us any questions you wish to be discussed at the beginning of our future podcasts! We welcome them. They can help us provide information directly for your benefit.

Also, a heads-up on my new website with its amazing bright and sophisticated layout. Come and take a look! My media manager said that, to create it, he had to move over 500 pages of data! I had no idea my website had so much free material. There are many timelessly helpful articles, recordings, creative writing, and podcasts available there. I hope you will also let others know about holisticpsychiatrist.com so they can benefit from its resources.

Fall is here! Enjoy all the colors and harvests it brings!

How to Create the Good Life Series

What can curiosity, open-mindedness, love of learning, and perspective teach us about living a good life?

In this episode, Dr. Alice Lee and Emily continue exploring Character Strengths and Virtues by Christopher Peterson and Martin E. P. Seligman.

Together, they discuss four character strengths that can influence how we learn, think, relate to others, and make sense of our experiences.

They explore why curiosity can lead us to ask better questions, how open-mindedness can help us move beyond rigid thinking, why a love of learning goes far beyond simply collecting information, and how perspective can help turn life experiences into greater wisdom.

Through personal stories and reflections, Dr. Lee and Emily look at how these strengths show up in everyday life—and how we can become more aware of them and continue cultivating them over time.

Hopefully, this conversation gives you something useful to reflect on in your own life.
